Eyelid Surgery for Men
Eyelid surgery for men has grown in popularity for those who want to turn back the hands of time. Surgeons in our Chicago, IL, medical practice perform eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, to address sagging eyelids and bags under the eyes. Not only does the procedure improve appearance but also vision since drooping lids can affect eyesight.
Dr. Sahar Nadimi uses an artistic eye and a skilled hand to provide dramatic results that look natural. Male patients are left with a refreshed look to enhance confidence and restore self-esteem. At Chicago Hair Institute, our goal is to provide patients with the highest quality results.
Who Are the Best Candidates for Eyelid Surgery?
Patients should have realistic goals for eyelid surgery and understand what it can and cannot do. Individuals should be in good overall health to ensure that they heal accordingly. Eyelid surgery works best for men who are concerned with their upper or lower eyelids or both.
The procedure is effective for patients who have excessive fat and skin in the eye area that causes bags and extra folds. The surgery also improves the appearance of fine lines around the eyes by firming the skin in the lower eyelids. Additionally, our surgeon can perform the procedure for patients who are experiencing problems with their vision due to sagging eyelids.
How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
While eyelid surgery is performed similarly for both male and female patients, males tend to focus more on the lower eyelids. In some cases, when a male’s upper eyelids are addressed, the eyes can look more feminine after surgery. There are other procedures or injectables available to target a man’s upper lids.
After you receive appropriate anesthesia in our Chicago office, we make an incision in a discrete part of the eyelid to minimize the appearance of a scar. For the upper eyelid, we make it in the natural crease. With the lower lid, we place the incision below the lash line. Next, the surgeon removes any extraneous skin and fat and sutures the area. The surgery is an outpatient procedure that can last between one and two hours.
What Should I Expect after Surgery?
After surgery, patients need someone to drive them home and provide them with assistance for the first day or so. Patients can expect swelling and discomfort following the procedure. The surgeon provides specific instructions on how to care for the treatment area, including using ice packs and over-the-counter pain medications.
Swelling and bruising may be more pronounced and last longer for men than for women. Patients might also experience dry eyes, eyelid discoloration, and have difficulty closing their eyes. These side effects typically subside within the first week. At this time, men should be able to return to work and start to perform their normal daily activities. This is also when you return to our office to have your stitches removed.
How Will I Look?
Following eyelid surgery, patients will notice a reduction in bags, folds, and lines in the eyelids. Men will have a more awake, refreshed look, which will bring a younger and more vibrant look. The patient will enjoy natural results without looking like he has undergone any cosmetic work.
