Improve the Size and Shape of the Nasal Tip with Tip Rhinoplasty
The nose is a focal point of the face, so when the tip of the nose is too bulbous or otherwise out of proportion with the rest of the face, it can impact self-esteem. Rhinoplasty can address cosmetic issues with the tip of the nose to create a more aesthetically pleasing and balanced appearance.
At Chicago Hair Institute, we offer tip rhinoplasty to patients in and around Chicago, IL, to help refine the nose and enhance the overall appearance. To find out if tip rhinoplasty is right for you, we welcome you to schedule a consultation.
About Tip Rhinoplasty
The tip of the nose consists of cartilage, subcutaneous tissue, and skin. The way these tissues come together affects the appearance of the nasal tip. For some people, this may result in a bulbous looking nose while others may have an upturned nose.
Tip rhinoplasty can address issues with the tip of the nose, including a bulbous or upturned nose. By adjusting the tissues at the tip of the nose, tip rhinoplasty can transform the overall appearance, creating a more balanced, aesthetically pleasing look.
What Nasal Tip Issues Can Tip Rhinoplasty Address?
Tip rhinoplasty can be used to reshape the tip of nose to create a more refined appearance for our Chicago patients. Some nasal tip issues that can be improved with tip rhinoplasty include:
- Bulbous nasal tips that may look too large in proportion to the rest of the face
- Pointed nasal tips
- Nasal tips that are drooped downward or nasal tip ptosis
- Upturned nasal tips that show too much of the nostrils
- Nasal tips that are too short and lacking definition
The Tip Rhinoplasty Procedure
Tip rhinoplasty surgery is typically less extensive than a full rhinoplasty procedure. This is because tip rhinoplasty specifically targets the tissues at the tip of the nose and not the bone structures within the nose, as with a full rhinoplasty.
During tip rhinoplasty at our Chicago practice, the skin, subcutaneous tissues, and cartilage are reshaped in different ways to adjust the angle, rotation, width, or height of the nasal tip. This can be achieved through different techniques, each designed to target certain nasal tip issues.
Techniques for a Bulbous Nasal Tip
The cephalic trim may be used to reduce the size of a bulbous nasal tip. With the cephalic trim technique, cartilage is removed from the tip of the nose to reduce roundness and improve the appearance of a bulbous nose.
Tip defatting is another option for treating bulbous noses and may be paired with other techniques or performed alone. Tip defatting involves the removal of fatty tissue from the nasal tip to help improve the proportions of the nose.
Techniques for Adding Definition
Nasal tips that are lacking definition may be sharpened through dome binding suturing. Dome binding suturing is performed by strategically placing a suture below the nasal tip.
Another option to add definition to the tip of the nose is through a lower lateral crural strut graft. During this procedure, cartilage taken from another part of the body, usually the ear, is grafted to the tip of the nose. This helps reshape the nasal tip and give it more definition.
Techniques for Correcting Droopy Nasal Tips
Drooping noses may be treated with a lower lateral crural overlay. This technique involves cutting and overlapping the lower nasal cartilage to help lift the nasal tip and improve its rotation.
